SANCTIFICATION

#2 In A Series

Sanctification is a work ?in? us, not a work ?for? us; it is a work by the Holy Spirit that awakens a spirit that can truly communicate with a Holy God. It is a supernatural work that is done by all members of our triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, (See 1st Peter 1:2; 22-23). Sanctification is a supernatural work of our supernatural God; and God won?t do the supernatural thing until we do the simple thing. We are trying to do what only God can do, when we fail to do what we must do. What must we do? We must seek the face of God as we knock and ask God to save us (Matthew 7:7-8). We must want to be saved and want to be sanctified, before we can be saved. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

That means that we must either read and study the Bible for ourselves or find some God-called man who will preach to us the whole counsel of God. We can never be saved unless we come to a knowledge of God, and that means we know who God is, and what God demands from those who partake of the blood of His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ.

Mark me well, being saved requires more than a head knowledge, it takes a heart knowledge and the difference is the difference between salvation and damnation. It is not uncommon to meet men in different stages of sins, like drunks, druggies, and even those who just don?t intend to be a productive citizen, and many times they are good at committing scripture to memory. They can quote scripture with the best of us but they just have head knowledge, not heart knowledge.

Many of us call ourselves ?Christians? which means that we should be walking just as Christ walked when He was with us on the earth; however we never put ourselves in the heat of the war between the spirit and the flesh. That reminds me of the cowardly young soldier in the army of Alexander the Great. Whenever the battle grew fierce, the young soldier would yield. The general?s pride was cut because this timid soldier bore the name Alexander.

One day Alexander the Great sternly addressed him and said, ?Stop being a coward or drop that good name?. That is the call to all Christians today. We should be living like Christ or we should drop the name and let people know that we are unsaved. So many of those who are church members in our society seem to always hold out the question, ?How much can I sin and still go to heaven?? When what we should be asking is what would Jesus have me do, and what kind of example am I setting for others (See 1st Thessalonians 4:1-8).

All Christians are sanctified as soon as the Lord begins regeneration, because the Spirit of God now has become our guide and our leader and He never leads us into sin. We either live as sanctified people and that means in accordance with the Word and Will of God as revealed in the Bible or we are false prophets, false professors, and are only posing as something that we are not and everyone will soon become aware of our lie.

Now each of us who reads or hears this short message must examine his or her own life to make sure you are a real Christian, who is living a real sanctified life. Let me warn you right here, do not try this case in your mind because God will be the judge rather than you. We have so many who have been trained by educators, who do not believe in God, to always have an excuse for why we are not where we ought to be, doing what we ought to be doing; and we justify whatever our lifestyle is, regardless of how sinful it may be. Be warned, you must deal with yourself just as God will deal with you.

Many have come to believe that man cannot live a sanctified life, and that simply says to God that He does not know what He is talking about; because God makes it clear that we are sanctified both positionally and in reality. In the High Priestly prayer of Jesus Christ, He prayed the Father that the Father would sanctify His followers ??By your truth. Your word is truth?. So we know that God uses the Word of God to sanctify those who are truly saved.

That being so, why is it that so many people today, know so little about the most important thing in any man?s life? Oh, most people you meet to day say they belong to some church group, and they would tell you that they read their Bibles; however many cannot quote one verse of scripture and make it perfectly clear that they have no organized theology. It seems that we have been taught that we can say things about God that are blatantly not true as long as we have someone else to blame.

We like to say, well, Pastor so and so said it and I believe it and we go merrily on our way. We won?t be able to blame some pastor when we get to the judgment; because God has given us His revelation (we call it the Holy Bible) and we will have no excuse for not reading and studying it for ourselves. God spoke to us through the writer of Ephesians and tells us that we are saved by Grace through faith and that now of ourselves, it is a gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). Then God speaks to us through the write of the book of Romans and tells us that Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God

(Romans 10:17). That means that we should be reading and studying the Bible for ourselves and making sure that what we hear preached is the truth and nothing but the truth.

I am sure that there are, at least in America, Bibles enough to save the world. We like to keep them out in the open, on our coffee tables and places where others can see that we have Bibles. Most homes have several Bibles and yet it is not often read seriously. We may read a verse of two sometimes but it is just so we can know what the Sunday school lesson is going to be about, but there is not much serious Bible study going on today. We don?t attempt to place what we read in the context of the entire Bible (Old and New Testaments), and we normally end up more confused that instructed. That is why we see congregations that are not sanctified, and many that even interested in being sanctified. So many preachers today preach the heresy that Christians are still sinners, and that almost every move they make or thought they think is a sin.

If you believe that lie, your God is too small, and you have not met the Almighty Jehovah, so you need to spend lots of time reading your Bible rather than watching the television. We have been taught by many pulpits that if your office is high enough and your power is enough that God will excuse the evil that you perpetrate on those that you are supposed to represent. Who ever thought that a country like America, a country that was established on Christian principles would ever worship at the shrine of a president that does not value human life?

That means that Christians should never waste their vote on a person who believes that we should abort our unborn children. If you call yourself a Christian you should resist evil and make sure that you never support someone who supports and advocates things that God clearly has said is sin. Sanctified people will never do that. Sanctified people are led by the Holy Spirit and He would never sanction abortion, homosexuality, fornication, divorce, child abuse and the like. Now, ask yourself after you examine yourself about what you have been supporting?are you sanctified? Don?t get upset at me for asking the question; because I have to ask it of myself and God will surely ask it of people who stand the Great White Throne judgment. There is no escaping the fact that God has set things in order for proper living on His earth, and when we violate those we will be held responsible by God. Make up your mind that you can be sanctified because God says that you must.

Let?s review some scriptures which speak of sanctification?.. 1st John 3:1-3; James 4:7-8; Hebrews 9:11-14; Ephesians 2:1-10; Acts 15:6-9; 2nd Corinthians 6:11 thru 7:1.
